Get Messy Art Journal 05 - More Adventurous

I had a lot of fun making this next pair of pages for the Get Messy Art Journal Challenge!  It's the end of the month, so that means these pages were made in response to a prompt given to us by one of the group's hosts.
Here is the prompt for this month; it's by Sabine:

Journaling Challenge: Live your adventurous dreams on paper. What would you love to do, or at least try, if you had the courage to live more adventurously? I would, for example, like to live on a houseboat or a train wagon.
Art Challenge: Try a method or material you’ve never worked with before. Be adventurous!
Here's what my finished spread looked like:

Here's a close up of each page:

The title of this post is "More Adventurous" - the name of one of my favorite Rilo Kiley songs.  (You can listen to it here.)  I decided to use art materials I hadn't tried yet from my local art store's going out of business sale.  I used a lot of acrylic inks and pen inks that I used with a paintbrush instead of a dip pen.  It was a lot of fun to try out my new supplies!

The other thing I did to be "adventurous" was to use symbolism instead of words to convey my message.  Lately I have found myself using a lot of quotes, which I love, but to try something new, I thought it would be fun to leave words out entirely.

The girl on the left symbolizes being adventurous in all aspects of life - something I wish I could do more of.  She looks like she would be up for anything adventurous for sure!  I need to be more like that in my life too...

For the page on the right, I decided to work abstractly - another challenge and something I don't do too often!  It turned out to be a lot of fun, and I hope to work abstractly again very soon...
I hope you enjoyed seeing this week's pages.  Be sure to spend some time making something fun this week! :)

Get Messy is an art journal challenge where a gang of crafty vixens are sharing art journal pages we have created to practise our skills and push past our creative limits with hopes to inspire. We share our pages without restraint every week, and once a month we create around a prompt. Go check out these crazy talented ladies who are creating pages who each have a unique perspective and style. We will be sharing our work around social media so follow the hashtag #getmessyartjournal.

    1. Thanks!! That means a lot to me because it took me a while to figure out my own style of drawing noses - they can be so tricky to draw! :)

  3. Love your style!
That girl looks like she could kick some ass!
You could definitely be her, well at least in the looks department...just swap your glasses for the mask!
The "kicking ass" part might take a little more work... but I'm sure you could do it, whether it be literally or metaphorically! ;0)

  5. I love that fact that you left out words and let the picture talk. It's beautiful. Your girl is soo strong and could mean sooo much. I think you did great.
This kinda reminds me of a book that I am going to read "The Secret Life of Becky Miller" because she dreams alot and they remind me of your girl.

    1. Thanks so much for your kind words! It was a bit different for me to make a page with no words, but it ended up being really fun. Ooh, I've never heard of that book - I'll have to look it up. Thanks for the recommendation! :)
