Get Messy Art Journal 02 - Just Make

I just finished my next two pages for the Get Messy Art Journal Challenge!  I've been thinking a lot about making art and making stuff in general, and I realized that sometimes I tend to overthink all of it...  Sometimes I need to remind myself to "JUST MAKE" and not worry so much about the outcome.

Below is how the finished spread ended up looking.  I made these pages so that they could work together, but they could also work separately.

I started to draw on the first page, then I realized the pen I was using wasn't really working too well on the thick watercolor pages of my book, so I decided to silhouette the word "JUST" on the page, cover the entire page with black acrylic paint (also covering my pen mishaps), and then I added extra words underneath in a gold metallic pen I got from the $1 section at Target.  (I love, love the $1 section at Target...)  To finish the page, I added some pieces of an abstract acrylic and watercolor painting I did a couple of days ago.

I used a lot of similar techniques for the second page, including another piece of a acrylic/watercolor painting from a painting spree a few days ago...

I hope you are having a creative week!  I have been playing a lot in all of my sketchbooks (I work in several - well, many - books at once!) lately, so I hope to share some more pages soon or maybe do a few more videos.

Get Messy is an art journal challenge where a gang of crafty vixens are sharing art journal pages we have created to practise our skills and push past our creative limits with hopes to inspire. We share our pages without restraint every week, and once a month we create around a prompt. Go check out these crazy talented ladies who are creating pages who each have a unique perspective and style. We will be sharing our work around social media so follow the hashtag #getmessyartjournal.

    1. Thanks!! Yes, I love that art doesn't have to stay one way - you can always change it up later - it definitely keeps things fun and interesting. :) And I am wishing I got more than one of those gold pens, ha ha...
