Get Messy Art Journal 06 - Super Serious

It's Thursday, so that means I have another two pages to share with you for the Get Messy Art Journal Challenge!  I decided to go a bit out of my comfort zone and try to draw a guy for once... I usually only draw girls.  I was happy with how he came out!
Here's what my two pages looked like:

It was kind of fun to turn the book on its side and do one tall skinny page like this:

It's not often that I draw "serious" looking people in my books, so I labeled this guy "super serious" as kind of a joke... I also wrote the words "Victorian Women Can't Lose" on the next page - it was just something weird that popped into my head while drawing her, so I had to write it down.  I often do this while working in my art journals - I just write down whatever comes to mind, or else I will write down some lyrics from whatever I happen to be listening to while I make the pages.  Music is a big part of the creative process for me.  I always have something on in the background while working in my books...  Lately, I have been listening to a lot of Ellie Goulding, Kasey Musgraves, and The Head and The Heart.

Here is a close up of the Victorian woman:

The drawings were based on some antique tintype photographs I found on the Internet, and they are composites of more than one person.  I love drawing that way - referencing several photos at once and turning them into something new by putting my own spin on them!

I hope you are having a great week! :)
